On September 12, 2026, Downtown Gallatin's Small Town Charm: Autumn in the Square starts at 9 a.m. on the Public Square. At the same hour, in the opposite direction, the Middle Tennessee Highland Games & Celtic Festival opens at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville. Same morning, same start time, opposite ends of the drive that Kennesew Farms sits in the middle of. It's the one weekend this fall where going to both isn't really an option, just a scheduling problem dressed up as a nice day out.

Autumn in the Square reads like the rest of Gallatin's Public Square calendar: local vendors, live music, the kind of small-footprint morning you can walk through in an hour or stretch into a whole visit. The Highland Games is built around Celtic heritage and pipe-band music, a different kind of gathering entirely, and it tends to draw people from well outside Sumner County who plan their whole day around Sanders Ferry Park rather than treating it as a stop on a bigger loop.
For a Kennesew Farms household, that means September 12 isn't a day to plan loosely. Pick a direction the night before, because by mid-morning both events are drawing their own crowd and neither is a quick detour from the other.
Three Weeks Later, the Calendar Stops Competing With Itself
Compare that to October 3, 2026, when Historic Downtown Gallatin holds its Main Street Festival, the single biggest fall event either town runs. Vendor counts have grown past 240 booths, and the festival now draws more than 30,000 visitors across a single Saturday, ten in the morning to four in the afternoon, with live music running on two stages and a food truck zone anchoring the square. It has run on the first Saturday of October for years, and this year nothing on the Hendersonville side lands the same day to split the crowd.
That's the part worth noticing. The two flagship weekends of the season don't behave the same way. One forces a choice. The other doesn't ask you to choose anything at all, it just asks you to show up. If you only have room on the calendar for one big outing this fall, Main Street Festival is the lower-friction pick precisely because nothing competes with it.
The Smaller Stuff Fills In Around the Big Two
Not every date this fall carries that kind of tension, and most of the calendar is filled with smaller, recurring things that don't require a choice at all.
Before either festival weekend, Gallatin's Speakeasy on the Square runs the evening of Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Emerald Union, a 1920s-themed night built as a benefit for Historic Downtown Gallatin rather than a daytime family event, so it fills a different kind of evening than the two September festivals do.
Gallatin also runs a Third Thursday series on the square most months, live music and a family-friendly evening that doesn't need a special occasion to justify a walk downtown. The most recently confirmed date, July 16, ran from 6:30 p.m. on, and the series has continued on roughly that same monthly rhythm.
On the Hendersonville side, the Streets of Indian Lake wrapped its Summer Concert Series in late July, with dated stops on July 16 and July 30, but the property keeps a Farmers and Artisan Market running as a regular draw for anyone making the shopping-and-dinner loop through that part of town. A few minutes away, Puckett's Restaurant's Hendersonville location, which opened its doors on April 3, 2024, keeps a weekly live-music lineup going in its dining room, so a Friday or Saturday night out doesn't have to wait for a festival at all.
None of this is exotic. It's the ordinary texture of a fall in this stretch of Sumner County, the kind of thing you find out by living here rather than by searching for it. But it's exactly why the September 12 overlap stands out. Everything else on the calendar this fall spreads itself out. That one Saturday didn't get the memo.
